This waterfall won’t remember a guy standing in front of it enjoying its majestic view, but I will always remember my anticipation to see this beauty of nature.
I first saw Haifoss in a tour book of Iceland and instantly fell in love with the view. There was some sort of indescribable attraction urging me to see this place up close.
When I traveled to Iceland I kept on thinking about going to Haifoss and try taking this bucket list shot. When I started reading about the directions to the waterfall, I came to know it is one of the less visited places due to the road conditions and only 4x4 vehicles are able to get there. Among my 7 day trip to Iceland, southern Iceland was on the fifth day and I was getting anxious to see this place, and to be there at the right time to take a photo I will cherish for as long as I will live.
I could barely sleep the night before my trip to Haifoss since I wanted to be there before the sunrise to setup my tripod and test my camera settings for the perfect shot. Knowing it could be difficult to get there, I didn’t want to get stuck and lose the shot I planned to do.
The drive to Haifoss was a breeze until we hit the 4.5 mile gravel patch that was mentioned in the itinerary book. That 4.5 mile was rough and I was scared to get a flat tire because it could ruin my whole plan. When we got there, I was in an awe to see this beautiful waterfall that is the third tallest in the Iceland. Next I started looking for a perfect place to setup my tripod to take the photo, most of the places in Iceland have nice fencing but this particular waterfall has barely anything for protection. I could tell by looking at my sister who was with me, that she was worried for me to setup the tripod because of no fencing. I believe in “no picture is worth losing your life” but I could still tell my sister was very concerned.
After setting up, within 30 minutes of arriving there at the perfect location I was ready to shoot the picture that I will always remember to be one of the finest pictures I have taken.
I give you the beautiful view of Haifoss. I hope you guys enjoy this picture as much as I do. I’m going to print this photo in a very large acrylic print and hang it as a trophy of what I dreamed of and went through to achieve it.
Cheers!
